Distribution Research-The Conjuring 2

Technological advances have changed the way we view movies all over the world making them more accessible for viewers.  The production company receives money from ticket sales in theaters and now from different well-known digital streaming services such as Netflix, Youtube, Flickr, and Amazon Prime Video. A mid-tier film is a film created that requires at least $35 million for production and is usually funded by production companies. The Conjuring 2 is an example of this as their film budget had a production budget of $40 million and was produced by New Line Cinema. The Conjuring 2 was released on June 10, 2016 and has a domestic total gross of $102,470,008. The film made $40,406,314 during opening weekend in 3,343 theaters. The film stayed in theaters for 11 weekends from June 10th to August 25th, 2016 and had a worldwide gross of $320,392,818 in 41 different countries. The movie then became available on streaming services such as HBO Go, Netflix, and Vudu.  Overall, The Conj...

Distribution Research - Paranormal Activity

The way movies are being viewed currently is very different than how it used to be as they are now offered in many different digital platforms instead of only in theaters. Digital streaming websites such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video have recently become very popular. Low-tier films are films that are created with little to no money from a major film studio or private investor. An example of a low-budget film would Paranormal Activity which was released on September 25, 2009. The film budget was $15,000 and ultimately brought in over $107,918,810. The film was released by Paramount and offered a limited opening weekend in 12 theaters world-wide. During the limited opening they made $77,873 from the box offices. The film was wide released, when a film is played nationally, on October 16th, 2009 and brought in $19,617,650. The movie played in the theaters from October 16th to January 18th, 2010, which is 17 weekends in total. A film normally stays in theaters for 3 weeks howev...

Distribution Research

Film distribution is the process of making a movie available for viewing by an audience through Digital Video Disc, digital streaming services, and in theaters. Box office revenues have increased over the past few years due to rising ticket prices, however the amount of tickets sold have decreased. Studies have found that children aged 2-7 and adults aged 50-59 have gone up in attendance as of 2016. This is most likely because of digital streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu which are more accessible for teenagers and adults from home, whereas seniors and young children are more likely to visit movie theaters as they do not necessarily have to worry about technology. Our movie, The Lost, has a target audience of people aged 15 to 25 because younger people are more inclined to watch the horror movie genre and our actors are also within those ages.  The age for people who are most likely to get a digital streaming service subscription are people aged 18 to ...

Before:  After:          After viewing our midterm submission of our film in class, my group decided that we would like to completely redo our film because of the issues within our plot, location, and having no sound. Once we decided that we would switch our location from the Siesta Key Broken Pier to the Siesta Key Beach picnic tables we realized our plot had to change. In our original film we were on location at the beach so Rachel could walk straight into the ocean when she goes missing. However, once we changed our location we were no longer on the beach or near the ocean at all. This change in location caused us to completely have to redo our plot because we know had to figure out a way in which Rachel would disappear. We decided to create a whole new storyboard so that we could plan out what direction we would like our film to go. This was when we worked as a group to think of different ideas that would help make our film better. ...

After watching our film in class and receiving feedback from our piers and Mr. Elsbree, my group decided we would like to redo our film. We experienced problems with our location, sound, and there were also many confusing aspects of our original plot. In the first draft of our film there was a girl, Rachel who was in town for college and went to the beach to meet up with her brother, Shane. While they were walking the beach they notice many girls have gone missing that she knows on Siesta Key Beach, which her brother describes in their conversation. He decides that he has to use the restroom and leaves Rachel alone by the beach. While he is gone, an evil voice tells Rachel to enter the water which eventually causes her to drown. Once he returns from the bathroom his sister has gone missing so he calls the police to report the crime. In the end of the film he says he will find his sister no matter what. However, after we viewed the film in class we realized that he needs to have more of...

After viewing our film, The Lost, in class we decided that it would be the best idea for us to completely redo our film. Not only had we experienced sound problems but we also decided that our location was not easy with the different camera angles we were trying to achieve. In the first draft of our film, we were filming at the Siesta Key Broken Pier. We thought this would be a good idea because it is not crowded, is easily accessible, and is very fitting for the plot of our film. However, we realized that filming at the beach was very difficult when trying to keep the camera still and trying to block out the wind. The day that we chose to film was especially windy and caused our camera to be shaky as the person holding the camera was also walking through the sand on an uneven surface. After we filmed the first draft we realized that we may need to change out location to a place where our actors can sit down and have a conversation rather than walking during it. This was when we decide...

After receiving feedback from the class and Mr. Elsbree, we decided that it would look best if we completely redid the film. There were many issues within the film however, the major problem was the fact that there was barely any sound. When we started filming at the beach we thought our microphones were on and working, however that was not the case. Once we went back to edit our film we were frustrated because we realized the microphones were not working the entire time. Our second plan was to just do a voice over and see if that would work and blend well together. The weather was very windy the day that we decided to film, so when we tried a voice over it was silent but the viewers could see there was wind blowing their hair around. The voice over was also ineffective because the lips and the words did not match while they were talking. While we were editing we tried to put background noise such as seagulls and waves but they sounded strange with the voice over so we ditched that ide...

Super Bowl Commercials

After viewing some Super Bowl commercials in class, my group decided that The Doritos and Mountain Dew commercial, Alexa loses her voice commercial, and the Skittles commercial have similar target audiences. The target audience for all of these commercials are aimed at younger people, especially teenagers, which is the same target audience for our film, The Lost. In the Doritos and Mountain Dew commercial, Morgan Freeman, a well-known actor and Peter Dinklage, a well-known actor who appears in Game Of Thrones are lip syncing renowned rap songs. The rap genre generally appeals to teenagers as they are the ones who listen to it and they would recognize the rap artists; Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott which were very popular in the early 2000s. Another commercial that has a target audience for teenagers is the Alexa loses her voice which advertises Amazon's Alexa.Celebrities such as Gordon Ramsey from Hell's Kitchen, Cardi B, a female rapper, and Anthony Hopkins, a well-known acto...

Final Draft of Shotlist

When we changed our entire plot for our new movie, we also decided to change our shot list because it would make it easier for us to film. When we first shot our original idea for the film, I had the shot list in my hand the entire time so I could call out to the person filming and our actors what shot would be next. Throughout our new film we used long takes a lot because there were several instances where Shane and Rachel were having conversations with each other. The shot list was very helpful when creating our film because it allowed us to be more time efficient. I was mainly in charge of creating the shot list because I am the director and my other group members were helping create other contributions to the film. However, figuring out the shots and putting the filming ideas into the shot list was very time consuming as we had to all agree on the different parts of the plot.  Overall, the shot list was very helpful in the creation of our final film allowing us to know where t...
